The Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority has launched a stakeholder pensions information site on the Internet. Linked to Opra's existing site, the new web pages set out to give a clear and uncluttered overview of stakeholder pensions.
Stakeholder pensions become available from 6 April 2001 and are intended to provide a low cost, privately funded, supplement to the basic state pension. This recognises the fact that, on its own, the basic state pension is unlikely to be sufficient for people used to receiving income from employment.
Topics covered include:
- definition of a stakeholder pension;
- the registration process;
- considerations for stakeholder providers;
- employer access requirements.
Opra plans to add further pages as new information becomes available.
Opra's site also provides links to other sites with information about stakeholder pensions, including the DSS and Inland Revenue websites.
