The European Commission has launched a new strategy to promote employment and skills in the “knowledge economy”. The initiative follows growing fears that a substantial gap is developing between the EU and the USA in terms of internet connectivity and information and communications technology skills. The Commission Report lists 18 detailed recommendations each of which is directed at a named actor and accompanied by a detailed timetable for action.
