NLP Trainers Face Compulsory e-Assessment

The ANLP, the independent industry association formed to represent the Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) profession is to overhaul its member’s CPD system with a new online “e-assessment” system.

With 2000 members, the association intends to make participation in its CPD programme a requirement of some of the memberships, in particular for higher level practitioner categories including trainers, accredited practitioners and accredited master practitioners.

NLP has received mixed reviews by industry and academia for being a “dubious pseudoscience” with no independent scientific verifications of effectiveness, and for having no requirement for practitioners to undertake specific professional qualifications

The association said that the introduction of CPD was in recognition of past criticisms and aimed to regulate practitioners, improve professional standards and support ethical practice.

Karen Moxom, managing director off the association said “NLP is extremely powerful and flexible and it is unfortunate that it does not enjoy the reputation it deserves… we aim to change this mixed perception and by implementing CPD we will both improve standards and provide greater reassurance of practitioner abilities to the marketplace.”
