“Employers will never have to pay a universal training levy under the current government, David Blunkett has indicated.
Speaking at the launch of the third report from the National Skills Task Force, the secretary of state for education and employment welcomed the recommendation that training costs should be split between individuals, employers, trade unions and the government.
“We have always been sceptical about the notion of universal training levies,” he said. “We want employers to try and ‘upskill’ their workforce and recognise the importance of it for their own survival.”
