Among the projects marking its tenth anniversary, Investors in People commissioned NOP Business for a major research project on productivity, the difficulty of measuring it (particularly in the service sector), and the impact on it of various factors including training. The results were republished this week as "People and Productivity".
The research involved a balance of respondents (1567 employers and 1275 employees), providing a rounded account of perceptions of productivity. The results tend to underline the value of the Investors in People Standard both directly and indirectly: among respondents who recognised the progress made in moving towards the standard, and more generally where noted enablers of productivity proved to be those promoted by the standard. The most positive personal responses to working towards IIP were in Scotland, and among senior managers. Organisations recognised as Investors in People were more likely to use productivity levels as indicators of training needs.
Other interesting perspectives delivered by the research include a real concern in Wales about the effects of lack of training, and general concern about stress in SMEs and in IT.
