NOt a presentation

default-16x9

Can anyone suggest (and maybe link to) a DVD or other resource to help someone give an address/talk/speech, NOT a presentation, on a fairly formal occasion? Most of the resources I know are predicated on business presentations or training. Not a book or workbook either, this is for a second language speaker who wants something on their laptop.

  1. EVERYTHING is presentation!
    George, are you the second language speaker and is it your laptop?
    What do you mean by ‘something on the laptop’?

    I think that an address or speech, even every day conversation, will be less effective if we do not present well.

    I encourage people to consider what they hope people will think, feel or do AFTER the address/ talk/ speech/ presentation i.e. start with the end in mind – and have a Well-formed outcome!
    Then consider how to influence the listener’s state, inform their ideas, and inspire their action.

    I like the old saying:
    “Tell ’em what you’re going to tell ’em;
    Tell ’em;
    Tell ’em what you told ’em!”

    If you email or call me, I’d be happy to chat.
    go well

  2. Speeches on YouTube
    If you want speeches on demand, George, try YouTube and search for the sort of thing you want. For example: ‘president clinton’s inaugral address’ gets the page: <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6mxbdgNlsw>. I dare say that there will be many, many other speeches, some good and some not so. Good luck.

  3. Speaking
    Michael provides the good trio of sentences but Bob Monkhouse- a great public speaker – actually recommended a 4th to Michael’s three sentences.

    “And leave them wanting more”
