on-line reseach sources

default-16x9

I'm about to commence my CIPD management research report and I wondered if anyone could recommend any on-line hr research sources that don't have costly subscription charges as I am funding the research myself.
My topic is Managing internal communication in times of downsizing.

Emeraldinsight appear to have any useful secondary research sources but I can't afford their charges.

Can anyone recommend any theories I should quote in the report.

Any support is most welcome. Thank you in anticipation of response

  1. Personnel Today
Have you tried Personnel Today? The HR mags on line have some amazing resources you can search.

    Good luck,
    Carolyn

  2. Errr….
There is a large CIPD online library – does that not cover what you’re looking for ?

    Good luck,

  3. HR research web sites

First of all try CIPD – members have free access to a wide range of publications online (on the information resources page look for online journals).
Second, talk to your provider. Many academic bodies and a few other providers have special access arrangements to research search engines. If they can offer you MyAthens (a rich set of resources for students including refworks for doing your bibliography), then look for EBSCO (the best for HR and comms) or Proquest. These may also be available, like Emerald, outside of the MyAthens arrangement. The library staff are often more clued up than the tutors, so ask them.
Lastly, worth a go, but not great, is http://www.scholar.google.com – it often leads you to articles you need to pay for but sometimes the abstract (which is free) is sufficient to see if you want to really get hold of a full copy or, more often, lose the will to live.
    Best of luck!

  4. Resources
    Hi
As Graham has pointed out the CIPD has EBSCO which is a wonderful resource which most members seem to miss.
If you are a member of other professional organisations such as IM, ILM – they also have great library’s

What about the British Library? http://www.bl.uk (one of the shortest URLs on the planet!)

Many public library’s also have a wonderful collection of monthly magazines & the archive – so worth a look there too.
Of course many CIPD students use the content on my site:

  5. Training search engine
    Hi Elaine,

While it won’t give you access to any subscription-only libraries or websites, you could always try a quick search on http://www.trainingmanager.info – it’s a search engine that we put together to help out our trainers which searches through only training-related sites.

    Hope it helps,
    Alex
