Online Typing Tutors for large organisations

default-16x9

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good Online Typing Tutor that could be used by up to 500 people at a time spread across a wide geographical area.
Many of our employees have had to switch from manual systems to computer systems and to make them effecient and confident in their new role would like to offer keyboard/typing training as well as training in the use of the new software packages.

Thanks
Sally Penn

  1. Not online
I don’t know of a good online typing tutor – but Mavis Beacon has always bee the goddess of typing tutors and if you do a search on Amazon you can pick up a 10 user licence for about £40-£90 depending on the version and then host this yourselves on your WAN or LAN.

While there’s definitely plenty of choice in this field I wouldn’t use anything else.

  2. KAZ Keyboard A-Z
    Hi

We evaluated all the offers for online keyboard skills and KAZ was found to be by far superior. I also see that it is now being offered as the touch typing training solution through Learn Direct!

  4. Computer training
I would assume that if your clients have no keyboard skills, that their computing skill is minimal – would they have trouble using internet technology? We are working on a basic introduction to computing and the internet that can be started from simple paper-based instruction and be developed using both internet and a paper manual. Course would cover basic windows features with some word processing, internet usage and email.
    Contact me if interested.

We have successfully delivered training of this sort to Diageo who have been goingt hrough similar change

  5. Typing Tutor / Keyboard Tutor
    Hi Sally,

You might like to try Touch Typist typing tutor which can be seen at http://www.typingtutor.co.uk and also at http://www.learntotype.org.uk websites.

Let me know if you are interested in a free trial of the software which can be installed in minutes over the web.

There is a site licence calculator on both the above websites and a ROI calculator to show you the savings to be made in your company by teaching keyboard skills.

If your looking at installing over the web as you mentioned then you have to look at the size of the installed software. Touch Typist is written as a very neat small package of only 3 Megabytes in size.

For Further information telephone 01772 454328 and ask for David or see the websites.

ps. Touch typist has been on sale since 1985 and has been constantly updated and tweaked for 20 years as well as being rewritten for various platforms.

The software is written with BECTA and BDA guidelines in mind, it therefore contains no scrolling text, no on screen distractions etc. etc.

The sites mentioned above are for Windows versions from 95 to XP.

  6. On-line Typing Tutor
Many thanks to you all for your suggestions. I and my colleagues are reviewing those mentioned. I would also like to reassure those concerned that the touch typing training offered is a small part of the learning/training to be offered during this time of change.
