The e-learning market may have taken a battering lately, but it seems that in the academic world at least, things are moving in a positive direction.

The latest news is that the University of Liverpool has announced the 1,000th registration for its online post-graduate MBA and MSc programmes, two years after its launch.

We first reported the launch of one of Britain's first online degree programmes at Liverpool back in August 2000. Since then, the University has moved into providing e-learning support and tuition for additional programmes leading to MBA and MSc qualifications.

Professor Drummond Bone, Vice Chancellor of The University of Liverpool, commented:" We have seen our online masters programmes really take-off in a very short space of time and firmly believe that they are among the most successful offered by any UK university. He continued:"There is tremendous demand from professionals for high-quality masters degrees with an international focus that can be completed without interrupting an individual's career path."

Despite the advantages quoted for saving money by studying virtually, course fees are still in the region of £8,000. More information about the programmes can be found at
