You can't fail to have read or heard about the University for Industry's LearnDirect initiative over the last year, as pilot schemes launched around the country. When the University for Industry was set up by the government in early 1999, the aims were to "taking forward the Government's vision of a 'University for Industry', by stimulating and meeting demand for lifelong learning among businesses and individuals." Since then, UfI Ltd has taken over the running of the Learning Direct advice line, a project which has developed to become LearnDirect, a countrywide initiative to offer online learning, support and advice on all types of training to all parts of the population.
LearnDirect threw open its virtual doors across the country for proper in late October. But what exactly is the UfI, and what is it planning to achieve? Who is it aiming at and on what basis will the University for Industry, who are responsible for the project, consider it a success?
TrainingZONE will be putting these questions and more to Helen Milner, the UfI's Director of Learning in this exclusive online interview. You're welcome to come along and listen in, or add your own comments at the session.
