We have been running general PC skills training for years and are increasingly seeing the need for a more structued approach. We want to be able to assess current levels and identify training requirements for particular roles and build courses appropriately. Has anyone done such a thing or know of bespoke packages that allow us to tailor them to do this?

Have you looked at the e-skills National Occupational Standards for IT users? They are at http://nos.e-skills.com/
They are designed to be used exactly for the purpose you are wanting.
IT Skills Assessment
We have an online IT skills assessment tool which allows you to set up job roles based on IT skills requirements, and then assesses individuals current skills gainst these.
You can then produce reports including learning plans for individuals and training course recommendations. You can also build courses based on the information gathered. If you would like more information, or if you would like a demo of the tool, please contact me.
