Outsourcing of training

I have looked for data on this before but without luck. The Keynote survey which is about the biggest acknowledges that there are few statistics in this area but that outsourcing is on the increase.
My own view – which is an informed guess but still a guess – is that the real trend is in multiple sourcing (small in-house provision plus 2 or 3 key suppliers). The majority of organisations I come across still ‘own’ the provision even though they may buy in some or all of the delivery.
So, my guess is that about 5-10% of organisations have gone the whole hog and fully outsourced the type of training you are talking about. Maybe 60-70% either buy in, or send people away to, commercial providers to a greater or lesser extent. Perhaps 15-20% buy in freelance associates to work with the in-house team. That leaves about 10-20% where most if not all the delivery is done in-house.
I’d be really interested in yours and others’ views as this really is a stab in the dark.

You may wish to look at this website, which is a portal all about the outsourcing of training and those associated with it:

There was also some data on the outsourcing of soft skills training in the latest (2006) Balance Learning survey:
