I am currently reviewing the Performance Appraisal system at manufacturing site, which employs mainly 'general assistants', i.e. entry level personnel with limited skills. Have you carried out a study into your own PA for blue collar workers or are you aware of any articles/case studies into this subject?

Examples.
I tried to research appraisals for operatives last year and was not able to find a great deal of information and end up writing our own.
I spent a lot of time in the CIPD library and found that most of the research and examples where for management etc.
What I have found is that useless they have a proper role profile/job description which management buys into it is a bit of a waste of time, as it is nothing more than a paper exercise.
What I have done which has made the system work better is make effective arraisals aa appraisal target for all managers and also have the completed appraisal counter signed by the managers mangaer and myself a head of HR.
I can forward to you copies of the appraisal schemes together with the handbook if it is any use to you.
