I am head of Training and Development for a global humanitarian organisation. We are, like the rest of the world, trying to scale up our training initiatives to reach more and more staff and local members. We have several goals in '04, 1) to provide core professional skills training to multi cultural audiences through interactive e-learning, 2) to translate some of our existing content to an interactive e based methodology. (Our organisation will be launching an intranet site this year and most of our global target audience is connected either to email and to internet.) it won't surprise readers to learn that resources are scarce. Are there any organisations out there who would be willing to share knowledge, products or even experience with us so that we maximise our available funds and avoid the horror story pitfalls that I hear constantly about over spends, over deadlines and unexciting pedagogical approaches.

Worldwide E-learning Deployment
A couple of years ago, I worked on a project to supply UNICEF with e-learning training in around 75 countries using a generic catalogue.
Two issues that immediately spring to mind from that project were the technology hurdles in some parts of the world – even making the virtual launch presentations tricky – and the cultural/language issues that had to be taken into account.
This client had a budget though and the ROI was substantial, so making the investment worthwhile.
If you would like to contact me offline, then don’t hestitate to do so.
E-learning
Hi Pamela
I don’t know if we can help. We are a small company specialising in Learning How to Learn. however, I do have contacts with the European E-learning bureau and they have an LMS on open source which will cost far less (almost nothing) than other providers. They also have an international network of designers and engineers. They are a NFP so could be useful.
Let me know.
