Hi Margi,
I guess before I’d even start to try & present tools, I’d want to know where we are going & why…
That being said, I’d tend to go with a demonstration/exercise/game – show what Change can do & why maybe some “outside control” over the empowered masses would be necessary.
2 that come to mind:
1) using Koosh balls or similar to represent Work in Progress, get the group to “improve” the process –If you’re not familiar with the exercise, drop me a line & I’ll go through it in detail.
2)Get a team of (preferably managers) to simulate an assembly line, say, closing, taping and addressing boxes. Brief them to adjust the flow through the system so as to cause maximum chaos (basically by the feed end stuffing boxes faster than the packers can handle them, without any communication between the various “process steps”).
Both can be debriefed to leave the participants with a bit of an AHA effect.
15mins sounds like you’ve got a slot in an induction or similar course… & if my experience of such activities is anything to go by, your participants will hail you as a Heroine if you do something different!
