Not sure that I have a full understanding of your interpretation of ‘vulnerable’ since your folk may be vulnerable for a number of reasons. However, in an effort to help I thought I’d share my experience when I worked with some folk from the community that had never attended formal training courses before. The course was funded by the ESF for the community and the delegates were shy, nervous and not sure what to expect. One lady confided that she thought everyone present would be ‘far cleverer than her’.
The courses were promoted at community friendly noticeboards to attract these delegates, low key advertising in their languages. As the trainer I worked very hard at building rapport straight away (as they arrived) to let them know they would be ‘safe’ with me. If this is your ‘take’ on vulnerable do let me know.
