Can anyone advise how we can check the credibility of a qualifications? I am concerned that a certificate issued for an MBA is from a 'dubious' source.
Thanks in advance for your input.

MBA Credibility
Not sure if this body can help at the MBA level, but they may be able to point you in the right direction: http://www.qaa.ac.uk/
Qualification Verification
Adele, I may be able to help with this one.
Happy to talk about my own experiences.

Telephone
In the first case I would telephone the institution to see if that person attended and passed.
If it was the institution that was dodgy I would contact an MBA Body such as
http://www.mba.org.uk/ to see if they have been accredited.
MBA accreditation
Hi,
There are a number of respected organisations who accredit MBA programmes and their awarding institutions, and I’ve placed a selection of links at the foot of this message. most of these links include a list of members or the results of professional quality assessments. This will make it easy for you to judge whether an MBA is world-class, or not worth the money…
Equally important is to ensure that you balance personal needs with the programmes on offer – even from reputable schools. It is possible to study an MBA in a variety of formats (Full-time, Evening, Modular, Distance).
Equis – the quality inspectorate for the European Foundation for Management Development – http://www.efmd.be/
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business – http://www.aacsb.edu/accreditation.html
The Association of MBAs – http://www.mba.org.uk/
Research Assessment Exercise 2001, conducted by the Higher Education Funding Council for England – http://www.rae.ac.uk/results/byinst.asp
Program in International Management (PIM). Membership is by invitation only – http://www.stern.nyu.edu/PIM/
Try the British Council
You don’t say whether the award was from the UK or not. The British Council
used to have a fairly comprehensive register of worldwide accredited qualifications, and often help university admissions officers to decipher qualifications.
Hope this helps.
Check it out
Any credible academic institution will have student records and the web makes it easier than ever to trace academic institutions and make contact with faculty or course administrators who will be able to confirm whether the person was a student and/or completed the course.
The Association of MBAs has rigorous accreditation procedures and a check on their website will tell you if thie institution has met their criteria.
