OK, so, I'm fortunate to be doubling the learning and development team in my organisation from one (that'll be me then) to two.
I've never had to recruit to this post before and, though I've got some ideas I'm hoping to pick the brains of those more experienced / knowledgeable than I (Here's hoping flattery will get me everywhere).
I'm hoping for help in three key areas
- themes / ideas / suggestions for presentation
- ideas for preparing a short T&D outline / activity (say 30 mins prep for a ten min activity)
- ideas for questions to ask to test understanding of T&D issues and the learning cycle.
In short, anything that could help me to find the best candidate for a trainer who'll be expected to 'translate' the work of 'experts' into useable training materials around policies, procedures and skills based training.
Don't want much do I?

Ian,
If you go back and search in Any Answers another trainer recently submitted a question, similair to yours – lots of suggestions and offers of help were given by members that may help you in your quest.
On another note I have recently recruited a Training Consultant to my team of one (ME!) please feel free to email me at Bsparks@awtxglobal.com and I’ll be more than happy to share the interview questions, presentation brief, communication etc..

Hiring good quality L&D people
Hi Ian, I have recently added 2 Management Development Training Specialists to my team and created a full interview script based on the competencies required for this function in our organisation. It was a three part interview: 1/a behavioural interview for all the competencies I couldn’t really TEST for; 2/a problem statement and requesting written feedback (testing written communication and problem solving skills); 3/facilitation test by by providing a training topic they were experienced in and asking for a 10 minute presentation to a panel. If you want a copy of the documentation I prepared, please email me at phoogstoel@ups-scs.com and I will send you all the materials.
Kind regards,
