Race Awareness Training Resources?

default-16x9

One of my internal colleagues is looking for a stand alone video (or similar resource) which can be used with adult groups/club meetings to heighten race awareness. Most of the ones identified so far seem aimed at children/young people or an American orientated. Trying the Dept of Health and the Commission for Racial Equality have drawn a blank.
If you know of a potential supplier or have used a product you rate I'd very much appreciate any information.
Many thanks.

  1. Jane Elliot Eye of the Storm

The Jane Elliot video Eye of teh Storm has useful content for race relations training – she also has other videos highlighting silimar issues.

Also the video Tale of O by RK Ross is good for diversity training.

  2. a Class Divided
I would agree with Pat – Jane Eliott’s videos are evry powerful. I have just used a Class Divided with a group and it worked very well. It looks at two pieces of her anti-racism work: with a group of primary school children and some prison workers. If you need to find out where to get your hands on a copy drop me a line at info@thinking-people.co.uk and I’ll dig out the address for you.

    Best wishes,

  3. Race Awareness
If you want to make something real, make it local! I always research community profiles and construct a social atlas for the area in which my equality training is based. It raises awareness, destroys myths and assumptions and increases personal knowledge base. The videos suggested are good – especially O – but in a local context even better. Additionally the SHAP calendar resource is powerful.

  5. Excellent Supplier
Try Olive Strachan Resources for help with finding suitable material. I used them when setting up a Learning Zone and their range and knowledge of what’s available, what’s good and what’s not so good is absolutely excellent. If you are interested please let me know and I’ll pass on their details to you.
