QualityZoneHSE has published its railway safety statistics bulletin for 2000/01.

In 2000/01, excluding trespassers and suicides, 39 people were fatally injured on Britain’s railways – down 26 (66%).

Of the 39:

  • 20 were passengers;

  • 8 were railway staff, and

  • 11 other members of the public.


50% of all the fatalities to passengers and railway staff were due to two incidents – Hatfield and Great Heck.
