We're looking for some business coaching for members of a management team. We have spoken to one supplier and been quoted a price, but we have no idea how this fits with what other providors charge?

Is there an average daily rate for management & leadership coaching, so we can see if this quote is about right? Also is there a accepted ratio for preparation time before delivery of coaching?

I really hope that someone out there can give me some ball park figures.

    Sarah,

    What was the rate you were offered?

    My input as a marketing coach is:
    Are you happy with the credentials and capability of the provider?
    Do you feel they really understand and can deliver what you need?
    If you can answer both those questions positively, is price an issue more important than quality of the outcome? You might find lower prices but may not be able to get the same outcome.

    Oh, and don’t fall into the trap of comparing training vs coaching rates – it’s a completely different service offer!

    Hi Sarah and all,

    Just like any other professional service, coaching rates can and do vary enormously.

    Also just like any other professional service the quality can vary also.

    I would certainly shop around and test run a few coaching companies and more importantly their coached before committing to one company or another as style plays an important part of the coaching process.

  3. Choose your coach carefully – you get what you pay for!
    The price of coaching can range from cheap as chips to “how much!?” and it is very hard to say that £X is the industry going rate.

    When I work with corporate clients I usually take time to get to know exactly what they want from the coaching experience for the individual managers and the organisation and that makes it easier to assess how many sessions, over what period and any extra work in between or afterwards (eg e-mail and telephone support, feedback to the corporate sponsor).

    As a very broad rule of thumb I charge around £500 for a minimum of 4 x 90 minute sessions. However, this can vary depending on how many sessions and for how many people and it is quite common to agree an overall price for a full coaching programme.

    Important things to consider are (a) how will you deal with the confidentiality of the coach/manager relationship versus the organisation wanting to know the outcome and expecting feedback from the coach and (b) how could you get more value from the coaching relationship longer term.

    Like anything else in life, if you pay too cheap you end up paying twice but you can also do a lot of damage through choosing the wrong coach so price shouldn’t be the only consideration.

    I’ll be happy to talk to you about my rates so you that can compare. Though I do agree with the other comments on this, it really does depend what you are looking for.

    It’s a bit like asking “How much is a jumper?”: the answer might be anything from £6.00 to £450 – it depends on your criteria.
