Responding to questions

In response to my earlier blog I was asked if it is difficult for people to get beyond the quick fix to realise something deeper.  Here is my reply:

First find their problem and help others to see how to fix it better.

Generally we find greater understanding when talking to others further along 'the journey' where the tools and process-based approaches have been tried and failed to deliver.

The truth is that much is very experiential and there is no substitute for helping people to see for themselves.

And I reiterate. While it appears hard; it is in fact quite simple, learnable and actionable. Once the basic paradigms and mental models have been learnt they can be applied to many different problems, eg. Lean, R&D, consultancy, Bidding and marketing, new product and service development etc etc.

The hard work is what we do: distilling the complexity into simple powerful mental models and developing ways to help people
assimilate them.
