SEO Training and the Internet Year

default-16x9

When I was first involved in online marketing in the 1990s the expression came about of the Internet Year. An Internet year was apparently the equivalent of 7 normal chronological years. The concept was justified on the basis of the speed of change in the online market place - technologically and socialogically.

The Internet is now 12-15 years old as a serious marketing channel but has the speed of change slowed and how does this affect SEO training?

From recent experience I would argue that if anything the pace of change in the online market place has speeded up. The past Internet year has seen Google, Bing and even Yahoo respond frantically to the growth of social media and the growth of the mobile Internet. The nature of organising SEO training in this environment has had to change in order to keep up.

In my opinion Mobile search and advertising is the elephant in the room. There are more mobile phones than desk top computers and they are gradually being upgrade to smart phones such as i-Phones and handsets using the Google Android system.

When it comes to desktop based search, Google has dramatically increased the profile of Google Local and Google Shopping results.

Any general SEO training course must therefore include significant content devoted to Mobile, Local and Shopping marketing initiatives. The pace of change in the Internet world is accelerating and training must move with it.
