Setting a team purpose

default-16x9

I am facilitating a team development session with our Supply Chain leadership team and part of that session will be about establishing a team purpose and ways of working.  I have a few thoughts on the ways of working but wondered if anyone had an inspiring ideas for the setting a purpose?  I want it to be aspirational, high energy and engaging.  I've done some visoning activities in the past that I've had varied success with so hoping to find some inspiration.  Thanks

The problem is that a lot of these activities use L & D/OD ‘in’ speak which really turns lots of operational teams off. Why not explore a simpler, easier to understand concept like; ‘what do you want to be famous for?’
The way you might set it up is like a Dragons’ Den type activity. Split the group up into teams and ask them to present their team as if they were a company in their own right and were asking for funding. Get your Dragon’s to be a mixture of people but include some of their real key stakeholders and once presented, ask them challenging questions about what they can do for others, what their aspirations are, what makes them unique etc. We did that with a change team and they very much sold their services on having years of systems and process expertise but their stakeholders saw that as a given and not special. What their stakeholders really wanted was a team that could build relationships and listen and work with non-technical experts – that was an eye opener for them amd shaped their thinking in a different way. Hope that helps.
