So HRD came…

...and went, and left in its wake a few vox pops, some interviews, several surveys and reports and a few hundred enlightened delegates. Aside from TrainingZone Live, the event horizon is looking sparsely populated - until September, that is, until it all kicks off again. These event cycles are based around the school year, clearly. As graduates become employees, on the job training and workplace readiness facilitates the need for the event calendar to be structured the way it is. As higher education becomes less affordable and the value of apprenticeships increases, will that change the look of the events calendar and alleviate the autumn/spring bottleneck? Just a thought.

A quick word on a certain sporting event that is taking place this summer. Not Euro 2012. We have been covering the Olympic Games on TZ, from interviews with Steve Parry to Steve Backley and Roger Black, and there will be more on the way too. I'm very excited about the games - for me it's the most exciting sporting event in the world (copyright all journalists), I just hope that the potential for brand over-regulation doesn't dampen the public's spirits for what should be a cracking three weeks.

I had my first antenatal class this morning. When we walked in I was the only man there. Were we early? Did the other mothers have partners who couldn't get out of the office for whatever reason? Were some of the other mothers without partners? All of these things were possible, but whatever the truth, I felt decidedly out of place. There were no training session-style icebreakers. We all sat in a circle and introduced ourselves with name and due date and then the midwife got down to the brass tacks of labour. Two hours later I left, educated and feeling ever so slightly helpless. I guess my main function in the whole process would be one of encouragement. Next week: complications (I won't blog about that)
