Sports Coaching

default-16x9

I work for a housing association and we are about to set up Team Manager Forums to help our managers in a range of areas. One such area is coaching and I am very keen to get a recognised sports coach in to talk to a group of approx. 40 managers on how they coach. Managers will then discuss how they can use these ideas in the workplace.
Can anyone tell me where I would start to look, other than calling the FA to speak to Sven?

  1. Have you read the book Peak Performance?
There is a book ‘Peak Performance – Business lessons from the world’s top sports organisations’ in which a variety of organisations behind winning teams are reviewed for “lessons which can be applied to all businesses to achieve sustainable success”. Organisations including soccer, american football, motor racing, sailing, netball, cricket and rugby. This may be a starting point for you.

The authors are from the University of Waikato Management School here in New Zealand. Their website is http://www.mngt.waikato.ac.nz/ppo/ and provides contacts for the UK version

  2. Sports and Professional Coach
    Hi Andrew,
I’d recommend that you speak to Steve Jones of Dream Reality on 08707 455219.

Steve is both a Sports and a Professional Coach, and I know he works a lot with the David Lloyd Health Clubs Group.

I met him at a conference recently, and he really is the good at getting folks to buy-in to the dream and make it a reality.

    Regards,

    Megan

  3. Why a Sports Coach?
    Hi Andrew,

Why is it that you specifically want a sports coach? If you get a sports coach who has not coached business professionals, you may not be in a position to make all the necessary connections with your managers and might miss out on a valuable opportunity.

Have you considered a business coach as an alternative? A business coach will be well versed dealing with the situation you describe and will understand the benefits business people can gain from coaching, which a sports coach may not.

You can find many coaches referenced on this site and if you’d like to talk through the implications of business coach versus sports coach for your specific requirement in more detail, please feel free to give me a call.

    Regards,
