Statistics on New Deal uptake

The government has released statistics on the update of places and the level of involvement in its New Deal initiative. Up to the end of January 1999, the figures show:

- 64,000 new jobs have been secured
- 54,000 people have been moved into education, training and work experience
- 42,000 employer agreements to participate have been made.
