Survey Shows Importance of Management Training

default-16x9

A recent survey by our company shows how important it is that businesses offer training to managers.

The survey, which you can find in full here, asked around 1,000 office workers in the UK a few questions about their feelings towards their manager at work.

The first question asked whether or not the survey participant liked their boss, with options for like a lot, like a little, indifferent, dislike and dislike a lot. The most chosen option was not like very much, with 29% of participants choosing this answer. A further 23% didn't like their boss at all, meaning 50% of all respondents don't like their manager at work.

Although it's natural in some professions that people won't get on with their boss, a couple of our questions returned some concerning results. We asked employees if they ever dread going to work because of their boss, to which 60% responded with yes. Although it's understandable that a manager and their subordinates will not always get on, 60% of them saying their manager makes them dread work is a very high number.

Adding to this, 62% of survey participants stated that they have previously left a job because of their manager. This is also a high number, and something companies should be concerned about.

In a lot of companies, managers are promoted from within, and although they may be brilliant at their job, they could lack experience with managing people. This survey shows that it's very important to give new (and experienced) managers the right training to ensure that they aren't making employees dread being at work, or worse, leaving the business. As well as placing an emphasis on the manager's ability to perform in their position, it's very important to make sure that they are skilled in managing people as well.

We asked a number of CEOs and managers what they thought of the survey results and had a response from Direct House Buyer, who said the following: ""it's important that the staff at Direct House Buyer are correctly trained to provide accurate desktop house price valuations to their customers, so that they carefully manage there expectations of what offer they will eventually receive from just the initial phone call enquiry."
