Leadership

default-16x9

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a 20-30 minute ice-breaker/warm-up exercise to start a one day Leadership workshop.
All of the delegates are Service Managers - who laready know each other.
Experience differs within the group, with the average length of service for this group being 25 years (with the same Manufacturing company)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thanks

  1. Natural Born Leaders
I pose the question “If you were to pick a leader for this organisation – any leader from any point in history – who would it be? What qualities does this person have which you admire so much?”

It is important that the delegates understand that they do not have to pick business leaders – they can pick anyone from Nelson Mandella to Adolf Hitler or from Bill Shankley to Billy Butlin.

I often prompt them with a sheet of photographs of many many potential choices.

Once they have decided on their nomination we simply go around the room getting people to explain their choice and encouraging others to ask questions.

The beauty of this exercise is that it links so well into later discussions about, for example, leadership traits or styles of leadership etc.

    Buffy,

I’d echo the suggestion another user gave pointing you at businessballs.com.

I’d alos suggest an activity called “Zin Obelisk”. It is an activity that forces delegates to communicate and also helps to spot the activists, theorists etc.

Not sure where it is available but I can recommend it. If you can’t find it anywhere, give me a shout as I may have an old copy.

    Kindest
