Sorry I posted this to a blog first instead of here which is the correct place. I’m looking for some advice please. I need a learning and development qualification to sure up my experience. I’m looking at the following:
TAP: Diploma in L&D Consultancy/ Management
QCF (NVQ) - Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development
QCF (NVQ) – Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
Note: CIPD has been discounted as too HR focused and my business is focused on helping companies with technical products.
I could do with some competence/assessment qualification which leads me to QCF. But TAP seems straightforward and more business focused. Being a one person company I would not be eligible for the TAP diploma in L&D QA. I am considering one of each:
TAP: Diploma in L&D Consultancy/ Management
QCF (NVQ) – Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
Does anyone have any advice or experience with respect to the choice I need to make and how the decision has helped them or their business?
Thank you
Abbie

TPMA
Hi Abbie,
I've taken the TPMA course from The Learning and Performance Institute (LPI).
It's a qualification that's recognised globally but most popular in the UK. As a HR Manager I also know that a TPMA qualification is becoming a pre-requisite for many employers when interviewing L&D professionals looking to advance their careers.

Plus I think it still includes one year free membership of the LPI 🙂
PS I don't work for LPI but I'm a member and they're great Institute.
Hope that helps!
TAP v QCF
Hi Abbie.
TAP certificates and diplomas are verified and awarded by an external and independent body – the British Institute for Learning & Development. They are also frequently asked for as a standard at interview, in fact we recently received some amazing feedback from a delegate telling us that having a TAP qualification had literally changed her life because it enabled her to deliver an assessed session at interview to a robust standard and of course she was able to boast a TAP certificate on her CV. Please see our website for this specific feedback and feedback from literally hundreds of other L&D professionals of all disciplines across major blue-chip companies and household names.
As you suggest, TAP qualifications are practical in nature, which is how we won the Queen's Award for Innovation, for our assessable learning methodology. They are also commercially sensitive, recognising that employers can't afford (in time and money) to send their L&D professionals for weeks on end training. We work with 40% of the Top 100 FTSE companies in the UK, across all industries and sectors and in over 17 countries internationally.
You are in great hands with TAP Abbie, but of course, your have plenty of choices out there.
All the best with your decision and good luck.
Adrian.
