The winners of this year's TD 2001 awards were announced at the Training Solutions show yesterday lunchtime.

A Telford-based subsidiary of office supplies company Lyreco received first prize for their all-round enthusiasm to training and their efficient training team of four. Looking after a staff of 1,200, they spend regular amounts of time on the shop floor to keep in touch with the issues affecting staff on a daily basis.

Other award winners who matched the judges standards for a clear set of training and development objectives, energy, imaginative use of IiP standards were Sheffield City Council, Abbey National, GNER, One2One and Prism.

Chair of the judging panel and Head of Training and Development at the Industrial Society Andrew Forrest told Training Journal that Lyreco represent 'the small proportion of British organisations who are brilliant at training', but added that there were many organisations lagging behind, becuase 'some still regard training as an activity for wimps - something to get around to when you've got a minute.'
