Investors in People are celebrating ten years of setting the standards for workforce learning and development in the UK. Estelle Morris, Education and Skills Secretary, recognised the contribution to British industry made by the organisation today at a conference celebrating the anniversary.
In the last ten years, thousands of employers have used the Standard, the national benchmark of good practice in training management. 24,000 employers are recognised currently as "Investors in People", and over 24% of the UK workforce are now working with the Standard. Recently, interest from overseas has also been marked.
Today's conference also sees the launch of a new IIP publication "Modern Apprenticeships: the Way to Work", speeches by the Director General of the CBI and the Secretary General of the TUC, and the presentation of a major new research project by NOP on "People and Productivity". The conference is the central fixture in a series of events, including a dinner in Harrogate last week to coincide with CIPD, and a series of meetings through the regions. The anniversary season will culminate in December with "Investors in People - the first ten years", an analytical review of progress and achievements in a decade of the Standard.
