The Outcome: An Introduction


In this new series for TrainingZONE, coach John Copeman will be offering a powerful insight into how to make coaching work for your organisation. The series will build fortnightly and all instalments can be viewed here.

First let’s lay out the premise on which this feature is built by answering a few questions.

Why ‘The Outcome’?
Both in personal and professional life we need to achieve outcomes, but all too often we get lost by focusing on the process, and in fact, losing sight of the outcome we need or desire. Worse still is when we don’t even start with a clear vision of what the outcome should be.

This simple truth is made worse for any individual or training manager today because of the massive choice of training and coaching choices available. Choosing the right training, coaching option can be a nightmare, sometimes with frightening consequences.

So, it’s time to demystify all the training and coaching choices out there, and get the focus back on track – it’s all about outcome, and managing the inputs needed to achieve it.

What is it about?
This will be a running story as I coach and facilitate a large organisation through change, growth and improved performance and productivity. Based on real events, but obviously with a fictional company and fictional personnel, we will take it step by step as uncover the areas of resistance and attitudes that defer success.

Success and achieving it is just like a 100-metre sprint, or a marathon. In fact, everything in life is similar to a race of one form or another. The key to peak performance is to break the race down into it’s separate parts, and learn each one effectively and efficiently, then putting them together as a whole performance.

That’s what The Outcome is all about, and the story will unfold in twice monthly features.

What benefit will it be for me?
Whether you work alone or are responsible for a large organisations training needs, you will find nuggets of powerful information and guidance throughout the unfolding story.

This is an absolute guarantee, because to grow any organisation your have to grow the people. Importantly, the people need to want to grow and need to have ownership of their own performance expectations. So this feature is all about you and your organisation. It’s all about your growth, your achievement and your success.

So if I were you, I would prepare yourself for keeping each instalment and saving them for reference, because you will want to refer to the relevant one as your circumstances change.
