The pace is gathering…

...for TrainingZone Live, our annual event which this year is taking place on 15 May at Dexter House. Speaker spots and workshops have been pretty much locked down, and the places are filling up. It's going to be a great event I think. I've had a more integral role this year than I did last time around, as in 2011's event it was the very final day of my current tenure as editor before I went on my Big Trip Away, so as good a job as I felt I did, my attentions were being pulled in more directions last year than they are this year. I don't have a 4.5 month long holiday to think about. (just a baby, but that's fine). It's great to be in a job role that you really enjoy, one that tests several different aspects of your personality, from multi-tasking to creativity via communication and plenty besides. Playing more of a part in the event this year means a lot more personal responsibility, but also more satisfaction when it goes well (fingers crossed). It's great to be able to look at all the events out there, analyse what works, what doesn't, and bring new ideas to the table too. I doff my cap to our events team, who put on a lot of very diverse events all over the country across our many sites and get great feedback along the way.

And now for something not completely different: the site redesign. I've promoted this in the last few bulletins and the uptake has been, um, how shall I put this? Wanting. I don't believe that the community doesn't want a say in this, so I will be inviting people personally over the next few days to join the discussion group (which I have yet to set up). We wouldn't want to make a raft of fundamental changes without consulting the community first, and we value your opinion on what the site looks like now, what you want to see, and other outlandish ideas which none of us knew we wanted yet. Of course, a lot of these ideas may not be possible, but it's going to be a hell of a lot of fun scoping out what TZ could look like in late 2012, 2013 and beyond. Please show your interest in this, you'll get to see lots of brand new ideas way before they get implemented and rolled out. It's your community. We want you to have a say in what it looks like.
