Trainer Appraisals

default-16x9

I have been asked to think about ways to evaluate the performance of trainers at our training company.
What ideas do you have as to how trainers' performance can be measured (other than by "happy sheets") and what are suitable objectives for them in the short and long term?

Thanks
Margaret Kennedy

  1. Trainers Appraisals
    Hi Margaret
One idea I use with my clients is, as training and development plan should be linked to company objectives, there should be a clear display of how t&d impacts business performance. Obviously scaling down appropriate to role, use the same performance indicators as the evaluation of training to measure the effectiveness of the trainers.

  2. 360 feedback
hi Margaret a really good way of trainer appraisal is to use 360 feedback. This is based on trainer competencies. The trainer fills in a questionnaire, colleagues, clients and delegates can also fill it in. this gives a more objective view than happy sheets. i am just developing a 360 for trainers look at our site http://www.appraisal360.co.uk

  3. What are you measuring?
As with any appraisal system, you can only really measure performance if you’ve defined your expectations beforehand. As Lucy suggested, this could be in terms of setting individual objectives linked to those of the organisation. It might also involve coming up with a framework of skills, knowledge and behaviours that you want all your trainers to possess.
