Trainer’s Tip: Share the Knowledge

default-16x9

This exercise, from Derek Adams, helps utilise the knowledge trainees already have.

When I had to run a session on assessment skills, initially I had everyone rate themselves from 0-10 on their skill in the particular topic. This is shown as a wall chart.

This is subjective, but to give some guidence I suggested that “skill = knowledge + experience”.

You pair up a more skilled person with a less skilled person and provide a sheet of questions for the less skilled to ask the more skilled, about. After some time they usually start asking their own questions, but you may want to provide a prompt sheet to get them started.

After an agreed time you can get some feedback on the process - what did the less skilled people learn, what emerges as good practice etc.
