Trainer’s tip: Training experience for rookie trainers

default-16x9

QUESTION MARKAre you a roookie trainer looking to gain more training experience? Our trainers have come up with some great advice to get your career on track.

Nick Anderson asked on our Any Answers forum:

Can anyone advise how I can gain training experience in training? I have been on a 'train the training' course and have developed and ran a personal effectiveness course for free. I did this to see if I was cut out to be a trainer. The course went very well and I felt so natural at presenting it, and the feedback was positive. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Nicola Smith has some handy tips on becoming a trainer:

Starting in a full-time role may be the best way forward as you get to work with other trainers daily and you can get a good feel for how to run a training function/business. If you decide to go freelance be aware that it is a highly competitive market, also you will need to have your courses written and ready to deliver, then go out and find your clients.

Carolyn Sheppard recommends a useful book:

Sharon Gaskin has written a brilliant book on launching your own training business. It's called How to Launch a Training Business in Just 30 Days.

Ehsan Honary recommends a course:

Just to add to the great advice included here already, I highly recommend the TAP course especially if you are focused on IT training. The methodology they suggest changes the way you look at training and increases your performance and that of delegates by many times.

Graham O'Connell, meanwhile, suggests that many valuable resources can be found on this very site:

If you search this site you'll find plenty of advice. Some good places to start might be here, here and here.
