I have heard of a course called the certificate in training principals. Has anyone completed it? How suitable is it?

I wonder if you mean the Certificate in Training Practice. If so, this is a baseline qualification programme for trainers accredited by the UK Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Its suitability depends on your needs. More information can be found at http://www.cipd.co.uk/mandq/standards/support/ctp.htm
In theory all providers work to the same standards, at least for assessment purposes. However, the standard of input and the degree to which you are equiped as a trainer does vary. Educational establishments and distance learning providers are usually the cheapest, but if you want quality training and the opportunity to gain real skills then you need to pick the provider very carefully.
    Hope this helps

  2. CTP can be valuabe for student and organisation alike
I will declare my bias straight away as I deliver the Certificate in Training Practice at a provider that can be found via the CIPD as Graham helpfully suggested. In my experience the CTP is suitable for a range of people with varied levels of experience. The common factor is that they want their skills formally recognised by a well known professional body (the CIPD). I have observed students grow in confidence and increase their contribution to their organisation very quickly. Completion of the certficate is via a work based project which enables the student to research a ‘live’ situtaion tha their company is facing and formulate reccomendations. Again this has much value for the the student and organisation.
A lot will also depend on the quality of the provider.
