Training course for Training Designers

default-16x9

Hi, can anyone recommend an advanced training course for in-house training designers who are specialists, they design behavioural training (i.e. don't deliver and we have other teams who design the e-learning & multi-media elements).  I was thinking of something like Advanced Behavioural Design, Using NLP in Training Design or something around connecting with the learner?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Regards

Mary

  1. Hmmm

    Hi Mary

I’m not sure the skills you require would ever come froma course…it’s quite a big ask…

My solution would be to hire someone who is a specialist at designing courses and learn from them as they work on your course?

    Good luck

  2. Training Courses for Training Designers

    Hi Mary,

as a soft skills learning designer I can quite honestly say there is very little out there and what is available tends to be part of a very long syllabus. I tend to develop myself and I’m never short of interesting reading – Take a look at Cammy Beans blog she focuses on learning design- here:http://cammybean.kineo.com/2007/08/getting-started-in-instructional-design.html

From this link you will also be able to see links to many other specialist design sites I also provide a link to Tom’s blog at articulare,  while much of the focus is on E learning, there are still some really good articles about the principles of instructional design: http://www.articulate.com/rapid-elearning/instructional-design/

You might also find the instructional designer competencies helpful here: http://manishmo.blogspot.com/2008/01/instructional-designer-competencies.html

  3. Training Course for Training Designers

    Hi Mary,

You can try the Training Foundation in Coventry, UK.  Check their website – taptrainer.com or just type in ‘The training Foundation’.  They’ve got loads of courses for trainers.  You cannot go wrong.  They are simply fantastic!

  4. You could look at what we offer …

I have developed and delivered a course for instructional designers in a large government department. They write and edit learning material aimed at several thousand staff – some new recruits and others who have several years’ experience. It has been a huge success. I’m sure I could adapt this material for your requirements, and would be happy to show you some samples. Get in touch if you are interested. jane@word-smiths.co.uk

  5. Yes!

I’ve been a training designer of the type you mention for 16 years now – all ‘live’ training, and doing limited delivery. It’s one of those things: I could share my experience for hours, but have never actually created a course about it.

However, I do a lot of work with a company called Instep UK who run a design/delivery workshop for experienced trainers. I’m sure that this can easily be tailored to focus heavily on the design side. It covers using accelerated learning, multiple intelligences and has just a sprinkle of NLP.

Please get in touch if you want to explore further.
