We are currently identifying Harassment Advisers to operate on a manufacturing site in North East Manchester that employs 500+ people. Has anyone developed an effective programme that has equipped Harassment Advisers with the skills necessary for the role? Looking for recommendations for suitable training providers who you may have worked with to develop this type of programme or suggestions on what should be included.

Harassment advisors
We train in this area of law as part of employment law practices. Some thoughts on what you could include are;
1. Health and Safety–duties of employees and employer in providing a safe system of working. ( this should include stress, Harassment, race and gender issues).
2. The court’s view- case studies and lessons learnt by others to apply to your workplace.
3. Personal and Organisational ramifications of harassment- includes legal but also performance and productivity.
4. Monitoring issues and removing obstacles to reporting incidents.
5. Insurance for the future.
6. Communicating a strong message – the role of management and leadership for workplace change.
I hope these help. The manufacturing industry has shown statistical tendancies to harassment ( figures by HSE and other government orgnaisations).
We have found when working from our Manchester office that because of the age of this industry it is a change in culture that promotes good practice. If you want to discuss this further feel free to do so. We have some resources case law etc which may be of use.
Best of luck with your project
