Training Grants

default-16x9

I have been asked to research possible grants that individuals and small companies are entitled to for training. I don't even know where to start. I assume that there are lots of things available, but would welcome any guidance.

Your first point of call should be the Learning and Skills Council who will tell you of initiatives in your area. Also try your local Business Link and colleges who may have accessed funding for the delivery of training to SMEs.

Many of the grants available are not direct to the employer but available to training companies who then deliver the learning to agreed outcomes.

A lot of these funds go to the lower level courses to match the government guidelines on skill requirements.

We have accessed these for some of our clients but the majority of needs do not match the funded training on offer which in many cases is only a partial match with the employer’s needs. Many also require some income to be paid from the employer to access this training.

I am a workforce development adviser for Business Link North and West Lancashire – you should contact your nearest Business Link and ask for an adviser to call and visit you – our mainswitch board number is 01772 790200 they will put you in contact with the correct area.

Also contact your council who may be able to offer funding too.

    Hope this helps.

    HI
I’ve been working with Learn Direct who have been able to provide training for our associates at greatly reduced costs through their government funding, and they have also contacted me about training grants, but our company is too big to take advantage of them.
Their website will put you in touch with the nearest centre.

  5. Try your local council
As a small business myself this is an area of special interest to me. I have found lots of support from local authority sources, enterprise organisations, Social Inclusion Projects and local business networks/gateways.
