Training needs analysis

default-16x9

I need to carry out a training needs analysis for all our staff to assess IT skills levels on Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Do you know of any software I can download that actually 'tests' people rather than asking them to score themselves or can you recommend any companies who could provide and analyse the information?

  1. Why test?
Testing is the best way to assess current skills levels – but if it is ‘training needs’ you wish to measure then really you would want to have users consider all the stuff they do not know (that they would get wrong in a test) and sort through what they need from what they don’t.
To do this I recommend that you show them first what the applications can do, so that they can make informed choices.

  2. TNA Testing
If you are concerned that people will not be honest (as if), inform them that there will be random tests carried out against the results of the TNA returns. Issue by department for the first few and conduct testing, then issue in bulk.

You should get fairly realistic returns once word gets around.

Psychology is a great game, isn’t it?
