Hi there,
Recently our Training Department has moved from Call-Centre training to all sorts of Projects Training requiring us to use approaches that we are now developing ourselves. I am referring to things like Training Needs Analyses, Modulare Training templates, Training Logs etc. We feel this is reinventing the wheel over and over again and is not an easy process. It is now taking up most of our time while we still have students to be trained but while we are developing our standard materials, there's not much action in the training room.
Does anybody know a consultancy that could help us setting up the organisation of a company wide training department?
Many thanks,
Pascal Elzinga

Look for an experienced independent consultant!
Pascal
I would look to an independent consultant for this rather than an ‘organisation’. My reason being that an ‘organisation’ will charge a great deal for the experience of one person; that single person would be cheaper with fewer overheads and bring you just as much (assuming you do your specification and interview right!).
You want to get this going ASAP if I’m reading your message correctly, therefore be clear about what you want to achieve with internal training AND THEN interview people on that basis.
You don’t want to drive delivery potential by a specific training ‘set-up’ (it should be the other way around). Many people will want to take you the wrong way when you interview, (‘I’d do it like this…’) beware!
Be very specific and do some reading / research to ensure you are not lead off-course (no pun intended).
If you want to chat do contact me, otherwise good luck and please let me know how it goes, (projects like this can be excellent learning vehicles both short and long term).

Training Standards – Getting the balance right
Pascal
I do agree with Damian’s comments however I am also concerned that this project appears currently to be taking up a lot of time and ‘there’s not much action in the training room’.
Personally I think it is important to ensure that whilst projects like this are taking place that the training team/department continues to provide support to the business. I have worked in several businesses where projects like this have taken place and comments have been made that the training team have not be supporting the business.
It is important to get the balance right between developing project work within the department and supporting the business.
