Editor's note
In the week when the latest round of GCSE results are due out,
a CBI survey has found that a third of employers in the last year
had to train young recruits in basic skills.

The Confederation maintains that young people are "failing to
make the business grade" with 37% of firms feeling dissatisfied
with school leavers' levels of literacy and numeracy. In turn
the CBI says that an increasing proportion of UK companies'
collective 26bn training budget is being spent on training new
employees the skills they should have learnt in school.
