Editor's note
=============
Many organisations choose to allocate individual training
budgets. Allowing each employee a minimum amount per year for
their training is seen as a great way of showing how much the
company values staff and encourages their development. But is it
in fact a formula for wasteful use of training budgets, where
staff end up on courses that have no real business benefit as
Martin Schmalenbach suggests in Any Answers this week? And is,
as Juliet Le Fevre maintains, the idea that staff value a
company more because it invests in their development a mistaken
belief?
