Editor’s note
=============
With the controversy over the decision to pull the Individual
Learning Accounts scheme in England still news, both learners and
learning providers are coming to terms with what it will mean for
them. For those enrolled on UK Online schemes, the future seems
uncertain, as replacement funding is hastily being sought.
Learners with remaining funds in their ‘accounts’ need to use
them up before 7 December, or all remaining contributions will be
lost. And, as I write this, one last reminder of just why the
scheme ran into so many financial problems – an e-mail offering
‘an exceptional opportunity’ for providers offering training
through ILAs in England to ‘continue to exploit the significant
revenue stream that the ILA scheme provides.’
What are your thoughts on the government’s attempts to kick-start
formal learning in this way? Let us know by voting in our latest
Poll now at
