On the day that former schools inspector Mike Tomlinson
publishes his recommendations for overhauling the exams
system, opinion seems split on what this will mean for
employers. Earlier this year, the CBI found that a third of
its members had to invest in training to improve young
recruits' numeracy and literacy. The CBI says it is not
convinced the proposed reforms will improve these basic
skills. The University Vocational Awards Council, however,
believes the reforms could be a major boost to vocational
education.
