TrainingZone.co.uk at Learning Technologies 2008

default-16x9

Last week's Learning Technologies conference and exhibition at Olympia 2 drew a huge crowd and feedback from both delegates and exhibitors was very positive.

As a media partner for the event we were especially delighted to see so many visitors at the TrainingZone.co.uk stand - so a big 'thank you' to all those who stopped by.

As an organisation offering an online resource it's always great to have an opportunity to meet our member's face-to-face, and to introduce TrainingZone.co.uk's services to non-members of course!

One lucky visitor's name, Lynne Pursell, was drawn from a hat following the event and wins a set of training DVDs by Tony Mann worth £180, as well as an iPod shuffle.

Two further visitors, Mark Broughton and Neil Melville also receive an iPod shuffle each.

We hope you enjoyed the exhibition and look forward to letting you know where you can meet the TrainingZone.co.uk team in the future.

Here's some more information about the top prize:

Becoming an Effective Facilitator
Have you been thrown into the deep end with requests such as "Can you facilitate our Away Day?" or "We’re meeting with a group of stakeholders on Tuesday and someone suggested we need to have a 'facilitator' – can I count on you?". Well, where do you get the training to become a good facilitator? The difficulty seems to be that facilitation comes in all shapes and sizes and with all kinds of philosophies under–pinning the theory. So what if someone had captured the essence of their philosophy and the core facets of facilitation on DVD?

Tony Mann, a facilitator who runs a Route to Master Facilitation programme with Leeds Metropolitan University (see http://www.resourcestrategicchange.com/workshop2.html) has captured some of the key elements of the principles of facilitation and the key tools and techniques on DVD. This is taken from live training sessions so you get a feel for the training courses by looking at what he is saying. He has related Belbin typology and Myers Briggs Types to the activities of a facilitator and suggests how a good facilitator handles different types of people. The DVD set currently consists of:

Facilitation - Key Techniques for Effective Group Work
This DVD explores the core models and tools, which a Facilitator should know and apply to become expert in their craft. The Feedback Model and SPO are at the heart of good facilitation. It follows the experience of managers on a course facilitated by Tony Mann, exploring Facilitation and its application in an operational context.

Facilitation - Theory and Core Principles
Understanding the theory underpinning facilitation is essential if a facilitator is to be effective in working with groups. Like any professional, it is vital to understand and core principles and to know how to apply them.

Facilitation - Knowing Myself…Understanding Others - Belbin Team Roles
Part One of a two-part DVD series: Knowing Myself …Understanding Others. This DVD examines the Belbin® Team Role Profile and the implications for the Facilitators.

Facilitation - Knowing Myself…Understanding Others - Myers Briggs
Part Two of a two-part DVD series: Knowing Myself …Understanding Others. This DVD examines the Myers Briggs Type Indicator®. It looks at the different aspects of the MBTI® and explores how each aspect (e.g. Extrovert/ Introvert) impacts on the way each person will react and interact with others and how the facilitator needs to use appropriate models and tools to suit different types.
