TUC Bossagram to Combat Long Hours Culture

default-16x9

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has declared Friday, 25 February ‘Work Your Proper Hours" day and are encouraging workers to send their boss a timely reminder to mark the occasion.

Workers who wish to send the following message simply log onto the TUC’s website www.workyourproperhoursday.com and submit their manager’s email address.

The boss in question will receive the following message:
“Morning, Boss! Someone in your team has asked us to let you know that it's Work Your Proper Hours Day today.

"February 25 is on average the first day that people who do unpaid overtime would get paid if they did all their extra hours at the start of the year.

“It's an opportunity for every manager to say thank you to their staff for their hard work and commitment, and maybe even buy them an after work drink after leaving work at the proper time for once. And if it's any consolation, managers do even more hours. Official statistics show an average manager clocks up nearly nine hours extra a week - worth nearly £9,000 a year. So you deserve a break too!”

TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said, “The bossagram is a fun way to make a serious point. Too many workplaces are in the grip of a long hours culture, and with a bit better organisation people could gain extra hours of free time and still get their work done well.”
