"In conjunction with Regional Government Offices, we are holding roadshows during June throughout the UK at which we will present our plans for UfI, and discuss how you can contribute to, or become part of, the UfI network. The roadshows have been organised to coincide with the timescale for partnerships to submit their bids to run learning centre hubs.

UfI is at the heart of the government's vision for lifelong learning. Working in partnership with a wide range of organisations we will create a learning network that fits the lifestyles of individuals and demands of running a business – providing high quality, targeted learning, available when and where people want it.

The Government has presented us all with a major challenge – one that it is critical to get right. Working together, we will establish a network of around 1000 learning centres. By 2002, we envisage 2.5 million people a year to be using UfI information sources, and demand for UfI courses and learning packages will be 1 million by 2004.
